Warwickshire Police holds responsibility over the area of Warwickshire in England. It was called Warwickshire Constabulary until 2001. It is the second smallest territorial police force in England and Wales. It has approximately 1000 regular officers and the current population in the area is more than 500,000. Proposals made by the Home Secretary in 2006 for the force to merge with neighbouring police forces namely Staffordshire Police, West Mercia Constabulary, and West Midlands Police to form a single force for the West Midlands region. However, these proposals did not materialize because of public opposition.
Warwickshire Police was also a member of the Central Motorway Police Group, along with two other police forces until 2007.
The force was established in 1840 as Warwickshire County Constabulary. However, its area of responsibility did not cove all the rural areas of the county until 1857.
The force is run by a Chief Constable, a Deputy Chief Constable, two Assistant Chief Constables, and a civilian Director of Finance. It has two headquarters which are located at Woodcote and Leek Wootton. The County is divided into different Districts or Boroughs. Each district is commanded by a Chief Inspector. At present, there are 33 local policing teams within Warwickshire Police. These teams are called the Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
The Warwickshire Police force’s Vision is to protect the communities they serve by using all its resources so that death, injury, loss and distress will be reduced. They have pledged to focus on fighting crime and provide the maximum protection to all its citizens so that they could gain public trust and confidence. Their priority is protecting the people by reducing crime and disorder. They also aim to be accessible to the public by increasing visibility and keeping communication open between the people and the officers. They work hard to give a high standard of service to each and everyone who need their assistance.
