Known as the largest police force in Scotland and one of the biggest in the UK, the Strathclyde Police is the territorial police force that is responsible for the Scottish council areas of Argyll and Bute, City of Glasgow, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire.
The force was created on May 16, 1975 due to the major restructuring of police in Scotland and the creation of new regional councils. Several police forces were amalgamated namely City of Glasgow Police, Lanarkshire Constabulary, Renfrew & Bute Constabulary, Dunbartonshire Constabulary, Argyll County Police, Ayrshire Constabulary and a small portion of Stirling and Clackmannan Police.
The Strathclyde Police Force covers a land area of 13,624 square kilometres with a population of approximately 2.3 million. With a large area and a huge number of population, the force have meticulously strategized its policing through organising certain divisions, policing matters and campaigns. All through the years, the force's main goal is to protect its people's rights by giving them the freedom of living a safe and peaceful life, away from violence and terrorism.
The Strathclyde Police Force's Divisions and Structure
As of today, there are 8,089 officers and 2,800 Police Staff designated in 115 stations with Stephen House QPM as the Chief Constable. The force's headquarters is located in Glasgow.
Because of its population, land area and other community matters, the Strathclyde Police Force was recently organised into eight local divisions: A,B,G,K,L,N,Q & U Divisions, H as Headquarters division, V for Support Devices division, and T for Road Policing Division. The highest ranking officer is the Chief Constable. Together with the Deputy Chief Constable and the four Assistant Chief Constables, they are the commanders of the force and concentrates more on the major police divisions.
As of the territorial divisions, the Chief Superintendent is in command and supported by the division's Superintendent. Other than that, the Territorial Divisions has its sub-divisions where Chief Inspectors stay in charged. With a huge employment of officers and police staff, the workload in the Strathclyde are diverse and plenty. Officers' assignments and designations vary from vehicle technicians, communications operators, word processor operators to police custody and security officers.

The Strathclyde Police Force's primary duty is to keep people safe. Like all the other police force in UK and even the world, it's always the welfare of people that comes first. With highly trained and dedicated officers, keeping a community safe from domestic and public events is possible.
