The world never stands still and neither does crime. The ways in which people are flouting the law is changing and the police force must keep up with new threats and public expectations. Our blame culture means that no failure by the police will ever be accepted and total accountability has to be well established in the police forces of England and Wales.
For this reason, police reform is occurring at an incredible pace and the service from the police force is constantly getting more and more effective in the fight against crime. Police officers are now able to make our communities safer than ever and our quality of life has never been better.
It is the wish of the police to reduce crime further every year and reforms in the Criminal Justice System are making this a much more realised concept. There tends to be a fall in crime each year and this needs to continue if the public are to maintain their high levels of trust in the police.
Police reform is not the name of a single organisation; there are many different contributors to the force driving the police into greater and more effective work. The home office is at the top of the list and sets the agenda for any forthcoming police reforms. It also reviews and updates police policy and ensures that the police officers in England and Wales are as well equipped with powers and equipment as possible for the duties they must carry out.
Current issues and possible weaknesses in the police force are always on the agenda. Currently, the hot topic is the need for a more citizen based policing style. Police reform is able to ensure the needs of the public are met as fully and as effectively as possible and this is one of the ways in which it can be achieved. Anti-social behaviour and volume crimes are also high on the agenda as well as a better leadership team.
New powers and ideas are always being introduced to help the police tackle crime. The force needs to keep up and the home office needs to ensure that police reform takes place. They need the new powers or else they may lack what's needed to improve our safety and quality of life. This is an ongoing struggle as crime is always evolving. The modern police force needs this to happen and new powers need to be passed with integrity and also speed.
Whether its the leadership team, new powers or efficiency savings; the police reform has to be as quick as it is effective. Criminals are not waiting for the cops to catch them up and they have to keep on the run. The police force in England and Wales needs to adapt to new challenges and to tackle the crimes that are affecting the residents of our communities. This can only continue to happen through police reform and the Home Office, as well as other agencies, are driving the force forward.
