Insider Information To Help You Succeed
As with the
role of a police officer the first stage of
the recruitment process is where the
majority of candidates fail to demonstrate
what is required. Within your PCSO
application form there are a number of
competency based questions which are used to
see if you meet the requirements of the
role.
•
This section of the
application form asks you to provide three
specific examples from your recent past of
situations you have dealt with. Your
responses will be assessed to determine if
you will be asked to attend the next stage of assessment.
• The recruitment staff are
looking for information on how you behave in
situations. The more of these competencies
that you are able to highlight,
the more likely you are to be invited to
pass the application sift stage. It is therefore
important that your answers describe in some
detail what you said and what you did in
this situation. Be as specific as you can
and do not be too general.
• Try to use examples that
you found difficult or challenging to deal
with. They tend to achieve better marks.
Top Tips for the PCSO Application form:
• Answer all of the
questions.
• Avoid using slang terms in
your answers.
• Write in complete
sentences, rather than notes or bullet
points as this creates a bad impression
• You must not write outside the space provided
as no marks will be
given for this additional information
The Problem For Most PCSO Applicants...
However, the problem is
that the application process which includes
written tests, role plays and interviews has
become very competitive and the
recruitment team are finding it increasingly
difficult to separate candidates from one
another.
Many candidates (in fact
between 70-80%) do not make it further than
submitting an application form because they
do not match the competencies of the role
they are applying for.
Those that do make it to
the assessment centre struggle for the
simple reason that they are not fully
prepared or know what is expected of them.
