Ospre Part 2  

 

The police force is a very professional and responsible organisation. For this reason, their leadership team has to be of the very highest calibre and able to accept responsibility with calmness and authority. The police recruitment process is a very tough one and there are many reasons why a candidate can be considered inappropriate for the position. The requirements placed upon a higher ranking officer such as a sergeant or inspector are huge and thus the testing procedure is equally as thorough. The Ospre part 2 assesses their potential as a senior officer.

The Ospre part 1 tests a candidates knowledge of the law relating to sergeants and inspectors and their duties. Ospre part 2 looks at management and leadership qualities. The police force has to be well lead and there is a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of every single police officer. For this reason, any higher ranking officer must be able to lead and take account for their own decisions.

The Ospre part 2 examination itself takes place over just one and a half hours. It is carried out using a role play format and involves a number of challenging situations. These are carried out in a classroom and are done with a qualified examiner. The scenarios that will occur include those that will be carried out whilst on duty as either a sergeant or inspector. The examiner gives immediate feedback after the examination period as to whether it is a pass or a fail.

Similar to the initial police recruitment tests, there will be a preparation period and a good use of this time is critical to success. Preparation will certainly help and may calm your nerves a little. There is a booklet containing more information and reading this is 100% necessary. It will become quite clear if a candidate has failed to prepare for the exam. This takes up half of the exam and then the other half Is crunch time.

The second half is also 45 minutes in length and is made up of seven different role play scenarios. They each last roughly five minutes. These are all played out with a role play actor and there are different situations to test the candidate for each actor.

whilst this is taking place, the whole scenario is being watched and analysed by a trained examiner who will assess how well the candidate responds and acts given the various stimuli. This is the person who will be coming to a final decision on the level of success and will provide feedback as soon as the test is over. There is no wait to endure with this test.

The key to the Ospre part 2 is preparation. Any failure to prepare will result in a very likely chance of failure in the examination. The assessment may be difficult, challenging and very nerve racking, but this is not to say that there is no chance of success. If a candidate is well prepared and knows how to react, they will have a great chance of passing and landing their dream job.
