Dyfed-Powys Police

Serving a population of over 488,000 and located in the counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys, Dyfed-Powys Police is considered the largest police force in England and Wales in terms of geography. Packed with working citizens, children, elderly people and tourists each year, Dyfed-Powys ensures security and protection to half of the land mass of Wales from crime and malice.

With a situated headquarters in the town of Camarthen, the police force covers 350 miles of the coastline where many remote rural communities and a number of small centres of population are included. Some of these communities are Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Brecon. Providing the local needs of the society through partnering with local organisations, Dyfed-Powys’s vision is “safeguarding communities” and they have successfully continued this honourable task all throughout the years.

History of the Dyfed-Powys Police

The merger of the four County Constabularies was the cause of the Force’s formation and considered as the last great police amalgamations in 1968. The Dyfed-Powys Constabulary included all the Old County and Borough Police Forces as was all mentioned above where some of its own county forces already existed back in the eighteen hundredths. The Dyfed-Powys Constabulary was changed to Dyfed-Powys Police in 1974 and it hasn’t changed ever since.

The Dyfed-Powys Police Today

The primary purpose of the Dyfed-Powys Police is to maintain the law fairly and firmly in terms of preventing crime and pursuing to bring justice to those who do not abide by the law. At all times, the Force must keep the Queen’s Peace where protection, help and reassurance to the community are done in the most professional way yet the quality and humility of the service still has exude.

The Force ensures its citizens along with its assigned district that their officers must be compassionate, courteous and patient, acting without fear or favour or prejudice to the rights of others. These characteristics are summed up to professionalism, where officers must only use the force if their lawful duties need be required.

Serving a population of almost 500,000 plus the large number of tourists every year, the Dyfed-Powys Police continues to give the counties’ citizens the privilege of freedom and protection. However, their honourable job counts on the society as well. The responsibility and the cooperation of the people also contributes the peace and order that everybody deserves and not just the law enforcers alone.

Over the years, the Dyfed-Powys Police has done an immense progress on the community. With lowest crime rate in England and Wales as of 2010, according to the British Crime Survey, “the perceived levels of anti-social behaviour are lower than anywhere in England and Wales at 5%.” Robbery cases were decreased up to 12.5% on its latest record as there were only thirty-five recorded robbery incidents throughout the year. The Dyfed-Powys Police also holds the lowest records of burglary, vehicle crime, criminal damage and violence.

The Dyfed-Powys Police stands firm as it continues its selfless service to the people.
