There are many police officers in the UK but sometimes this is simply not enough. High key events such as football matches are of course going to need a much larger volume of police and sometimes there aren't enough regular police officers in the force to cope with such surges in demand. For this reason the force hires special constables who volunteer to work along side the police. Becoming a special constable isn't just about offering your services for free and you could stand to gain from it.

You can demonstrate your abilities by proving that you can carry out the duties of a regular police officer and portray your high level of trustworthiness and the ability to take on responsibility. It may also be of an advantage if you are unsure about becoming a police officer and wish to gain some experience in order to gauge whether or not it is the right career path for you.
